Hotel: Victoria Warehouse

Trafford Wharf Road, Stretford, M17 1AB, Manchester

Located just on the outskirts of the city, Victoria Warehouse is Manchester's latest conversion success story. From the outside, this Grade 2 listed building is a true Mancunian landmark. On the inside, it’s now an exposed brick, culturally inspired and truly eclectic space! The bar is well stocked, the beds are well made and breakfast is well served. What more can you ask for?!

Breakfast: Home Sweet Home

49–51 Edge Street, Northern Quarter, M4 1HW, Manchester

If you're heading to Home Sweet Home, expect more than just your average “Full English”. Breakfast on this occasion consisted of bacon, eggs and maple syrup pancakes. And I just have three words to describe it: Oh. My. God.

Coffee & Art

20 Oldham Street, M1 1JA, Manchester

This hip lifestyle store and coffee bar in the Northern Quarter definitely takes it to the next level. Neither their coffee, brought in especially from the North East, shipped up the Tyne and roasted in Byker, nor their unique selection of home wares and local craft - which makes this the ideal spot for sourcing great quality gifts with a twist - are run of the mill.

Manchester Craft & Design Centre is surely the beating heart of the creative Northern Quarter. Home to around 30 resident artists and craftspeople, the Centre also hosts a unique exhibition, events and workshop program. So whether you're looking to get your hands on some original works of art, or get hands on with making your own, this is definitely the place to be.

Records: Piccadilly Records

53 Oldham Street, M1 1JR, Manchester

If you’re at all interested in music, Piccadilly Records is a true Manchester staple. These guys really know their stuff and if they don't, then they know someone who does. Usually, he or she is just another punter hanging around waiting to use the decks.

Vietnamese: Viet Shack

49 High Street, M4 3AH, Manchester

New kids on the block Viet Shack have been going strong from day one. A really great example of a few things done exceptionally well. Based in The Arndale food market, this is the place for delicious treats like only the Vietnamese know how.

Sneakers: Size?

18 Market Street, M1 1PT, Manchester

Size really doesn't matter when it comes to quality. Selling some of the best kicks in town and the backpacks to suit, Size? are Manchester's “go-to” trainer store. They do the colourways others don't and have the low-down on what's coming in.

Tearoom: North Tea Power

36 Tib Street, M4 1LA, Manchester

NTP was the first of it's kind in Manchester and, to my mind, it's still the best. A daily hang-out for laptop-wielding creatives and spreadsheet-fillers alike, you'd be hard pressed to find a better selection of quality loose leaf teas. Don’t be fooled by the name and discount the coffee though, the guys have got it down to an art.

Indoor Market: Afflecks Palace

52 Church Street, M4 1PW, Manchester

A mecca for alternative culture, Afflecks has the ultimate cult status. There are hundreds of stalls selling everything from 1980's Transformer toys, band posters and t-shirts to leather chaps and glow sticks. There's a great café on the top floor, too. Enter with an open mind and enjoy it.

Library: John Rylands Library

150 Deansgate, M3 3EH, Manchester

Far and away my favourite building in Manchester. The John Rylands Library is fantastic to take in. It’s a fusion of modern-build and late-Victorian neo-Gothic and truly something to behold. The Library also boasts an ever-changing exhibition landscape, from original Clockwork Orange sketches to canal-side watercolours on any given day.

Burgers: Almost Famous

Unit 2, Great Northern Warehouse, Peter Street, M3 4EJ, Manchester

Almost Famous has a Twitter feed that could make even the worst Twitter trolls wince. Combine that attitude with an unassuming door, a no booking policy and top notch burger concepts and you're there. Brioche buns, baconnaise, marmite butter and lots of meat pretty much sums this place up.

Bar: Kosmonaut

10 Tariff Street, Northern Quarter, M1 2FF, Manchester

On the fringe of the Northern Quarter you'd be forgiven for missing Kosmonaut but it's packed to the rafters from 5pm Thursday to 1am Sunday. Plenty of good DJ's spinning plenty of good tunes upstairs. Downstairs you can change up the mood in a matter of seconds. They also have a great food menu.

Club: Soup Kitchen

31–33 Spear Street, M1 1DF, Manchester

You'd be hard pressed to find anything even close to R'n'B at Soup Kitchen. The more "niche" club nights and events make it a haven for anyone looking to experience a night of painstakingly curated music. Upstairs in the bar you won't be short of interesting folks to look at and conversations to join in on.
