Glass House Hotel

2 Greenside Place, EH1 3AA, Edinburgh

When in Edinburgh, even the most die-hard couch surfer will have a hard time resisting the classy Glass House Hotel. An ideal base because of its central location and with a great mix of contemporary design and historic architecture. But if you ask me, the 2-acre rooftop garden is by far its best-kept secret! Your own private oasis in the middle of the city!

3c York Place, EH1 3EB, Edinburgh

Sure, the coffee is incredibly good. But if I’m honest, it’s the hot chocolates that keep me coming back! Made from your choice of white or dark chocolate and served with homemade marshmallows from Edinburgh’s own ‘marshmallow lady’ from up the road. As Fortitude is also right next to a regular hang-out of mine - the Stand Comedy Club – there’s a good chance you’ll find me here feverishly writing new bad jokes. :-)

Surgeons’ Hall Museums

Nicolson St., EH8 9DW, Edinburgh

This museum is like no other and in any case, it is not for the feint hearted! A huge collection of tools, artefacts and yes, preserved body parts, which together tell the history of dentistry, surgery and all things medical. Ranging from the time they used rocks to cure a toothache right up to the present day. A gentle reminder that living in the 21st century isn’t all that bad, actually.

This cracking pub is just a stone’s throw from The Meadows in Bruntsfield. Big on local suppliers (so the food is top notch!) and with guest beers featured every month, so you can sample some of the local brews. A great place for Sunday brunch, which almost rhymes with BRUNTsfield.
