39, Stand up comedian & doodler, Edinburgh - Scotland
Bars inside bookcases, pastures on rooftops, and easy-going people... As home to the world's most famous comedy festival, Edinburgh is full of all things curious and quirky. And who better to show you this great city than stand-up comic, Damian Clark?
When in Edinburgh, even the most die-hard couch surfer will have a hard time resisting the classy Glass House Hotel. An ideal base because of its central location and with a great mix of contemporary design and historic architecture. But if you ask me, the 2-acre rooftop garden is by far its best-kept secret! Your own private oasis in the middle of the city!
Don’t be surprised if you run into some of the world’s best stand-up comedians here during the Edinburgh Fringe! This American-style diner complete with pool table and pinball machine is the perfect hang-out any time of day and all year round. Why’s that you ask? Three words: All. Day. Breakfast.

Whenever I stroll up (or down) Victoria St., I almost always stop at Red Door Gallery for an update on the local art scene. They regularly feature some amazing local artists and if you need an original greeting card at short notice, you need look no further! “Happy Birthday, here’s a cat who looks like Ziggy Stardust.” Sorted!

Sure, the coffee is incredibly good. But if I’m honest, it’s the hot chocolates that keep me coming back! Made from your choice of white or dark chocolate and served with homemade marshmallows from Edinburgh’s own ‘marshmallow lady’ from up the road. As Fortitude is also right next to a regular hang-out of mine - the Stand Comedy Club – there’s a good chance you’ll find me here feverishly writing new bad jokes. :-)

This museum is like no other and in any case, it is not for the feint hearted! A huge collection of tools, artefacts and yes, preserved body parts, which together tell the history of dentistry, surgery and all things medical. Ranging from the time they used rocks to cure a toothache right up to the present day. A gentle reminder that living in the 21st century isn’t all that bad, actually.
- Monday-Sunday 10.00am-5.00pm
This cracking pub is just a stone’s throw from The Meadows in Bruntsfield. Big on local suppliers (so the food is top notch!) and with guest beers featured every month, so you can sample some of the local brews. A great place for Sunday brunch, which almost rhymes with BRUNTsfield.

If you’re pining for the golden age of cinema, this Art Deco palace complete with red carpet is sure to satisfy! Grab a drink from the bar, sit back (or should I say lie back?) in one of the full recliner couches, and enjoy the show! Now this is one place where I don’t mind staying for the credits!

A prohibition-style bar that’s hidden behind a bookcase! What’s not to like?! At street level, Panda & Sons is made to look like a barbershop and the theme is carried out through the rest of the bar. Where else can you work your way through the cocktail menu, one delicious glass at a time, while sitting in a barber’s chair?
