With its large student population and hotbed of artists, activists and media-types, Bristol is a vibrant destination with its own very unique identity. Illustrators and tattoo artists Barbie Lowenberg and Iain Sellar from the creative collective ‘Long Fox’ show us why they are fans and residents of this lively city.

Hotel: Channings Hotel
A beautiful Victorian building, Channing's is in Clifton which is a key location for accessing Bristol’s bustling nightlife. It also hosts a huge beer garden, lively bar and a cosy bar downstairs. The place is littered with images of Bristol through the ages. A great place to start a Bristol adventure.
Breakfast: Hart's Bakery
Hart's Bakery is an artisan bakery set in a beautiful Victorian railway arch at Temple Meads station. All of their products are prepared, baked and sold within one open space with a real welcoming, rustic feel to it. The seating area gives customers the chance to watch the bakers at work whilst enjoying their home-roasted coffee and food. They specialise in sourdough loaves, handmade pastries, seasonal cakes and savouries. We recommend the garlic and rosemary sausage roll!
Opening Hours
- Tuesday-Saturday 7.00am-3.00pm
Vintage: Uncle Sam's American Vintage
Established in 1984, Uncle Sam's is Bristol's longest-running vintage clothing shop. With their stock regularly imported straight from sunny California, it's a personal favourite of ours to find genuine, non-reproduced vintage clothing and rare 50s and 60s vinyl. Amongst the clothes and records, there are original music and cinema posters, screen prints by local illustrators and a mean 1970s jukebox spinning some great tunes... and we found our favourite Black Sabbath t-shirt there!
Opening Hours
- Monday-Saturday 11.00am-5.30pm
Clothing: Dutty
Dutty brings you one-offs, limited editions and handmade items by up and coming designers (including us!), as well as pre-loved, customised and designer vintage. You can see their love for the 90s throughout the shop and they take their inspiration from the music of the era; Hip Hop, UK Garage and Rave. GIRL POWER (and they do boys stuff too)!

There are plenty more delicious things on the menu and a whole host of provisions for you to buy and take home too. Owner Chris keeps things civil in Easton in this quality cafe/deli.

Coffee: Playground Coffee House
The Playhouse Cafe is a personal favourite of Barbie's, an unashamed coffee lover/addict. Not only do they provide a banging flat white, beautifully presented of course, but also the opportunity to bring out your inner child. The interior, inspired by a children's playground, is equipped with decorative climbing frames, rope swings instead of chairs and an array of board games… We recommend Pucket.

Working with a wide range of established faces of the Bristol art scene, this gallery/studio space is sure to hold plenty of great events in the future.

Restaurant: Soukitchen
Souk is a commercial quarter in an Arab or Berber city. Situated at the heart of each town and city, the Souk is an epicentre of trade. This place has a welcoming atmosphere and an incredible variety of Middle Eastern dishes. The struggle to choose just one was real so the only way forward was to order the entire mezze menu... which didn't disappoint! Barbie couldn't get enough of the cauliflower!
